Whitestein Technologies and Living Systems Join Forces

On 1 July 2003, Whitestein Technologies, based in Zug, Switzerland, acquired Living Systems, Donaueschingen, Germany.

Founded in 1996, Living Systems pioneered the development and use of industry-grade software agent technologies in real-world products and solutions. Likewise, the software agent paradigm is at the core of Whitestein Technologies’ corporate strategy, bearing huge potential for attractive business opportunities and innovative products in complex and dynamic application domains. This is particularly true when leveraged with other leading edge technologies including web services, mobile computing, grid computing, and RFID tags. Both companies have made substantial investments in the development of commercial agent-based software products.

Living Systems operates as Whitestein’s logistics product development center, in close cooperation with Whitestein’s competence center in Zurich (Switzerland), offshore development center in Bratislava (Slovakia), and research center in Sophia Antipolis (France).

The joint offering encompasses a set of agent-based products for the logistics, telecom, and financial services domains including two software agent platforms and the corresponding development, deployment, and administration tools and methodologies. Software agent platforms, or agent servers, provide the necessary infrastructure (middleware) for agent-based products and their integration with other solutions and products. This portfolio is complemented by comprehensive services offering consulting, support, customization, and integration.

This acquisition puts Whitestein Technologies in a highly favorable position in the future-oriented market of software agent based products and solutions.
