Telenor Launches "Turbo-3G" Service Powered by Whitestein’s Autonomic Seamless Mobility Technology
In response to a significant uptake in customers’ demand for mobile broadband, Telenor on October 25 announced the initial launch of its "Turbo-3G" service in major cities across Norway. Telenor serves more than 129 million mobile customers in twelve countries and is a leader in broadband services in Scandinavia.
The client software that enables the "Turbo-3G" service is powered by award-winning autonomic seamless mobility technology from Whitestein Technologies and bridges Telenor’s 2G, 3G and WLAN infrastructures. It manages network selection and access for the user by automatically connecting to the fastest network available at any location and autonomously facilitates network handovers for clients on the move.
"Now, more and more people will find the quality and speed of the mobile network to be so good that you can take your broadband experience along wherever you go," said Berit Kjøll, Division Director at Telenor.
"A novelty in the Norwegian market, this seamless mobile broadband offering allows Telenor to further sharpen its profile in an industry where innovation will be key to success," said Marius Walliser, CEO of Whitestein Technologies. "We are proud to provide the autonomic technology that enables Telenor and its peers to move complexity and frustration away from their customers and thus increase network and service utilization and experience."
