The editors strongly encourage book proposals from researchers conducting relevant scientific work, from industrial practitioners exploring agent technology and autonomic computing in practical applications, as well as from Ph.D. students. In this context, relevant technical reports, workshop and conference proceedings, and high quality Ph.D. theses are the first candidates for the Whitestein Series.
Selection criteria
Good quality of the work and of the manuscript is an essential pre-requisite. The subject content must be current and relevant (see below).
High priority is given to manuscripts (either monographic or paper collections) reporting on the deployment of agent technology or autonomic computing for real-world applications and problems.
Thematical areas of primary interest include, but are not limited to: telecommunications (autonomic communications, network and service management, etc.), logistics (manufacturing and production control, transportation, supply networks, etc.), financial services (banking, insurance applications, etc.), healthcare (e.g., patient empowerment, dynamic planning and scheduling in hospitals, etc.), workflow and business process management, ambient intelligence (ubiquitous computing, pervasive technologies, etc.). Other areas of significant interest include automotive, robotics and defence applications.
Submission instructions
The author(s) (for monographic publications) or the guest editor(s) (for collection of papers) are expected to take responsibility for the submission procedure as follows:
Submitted manuscripts should be in final form, proofread, and ready for publication. The Whitestein Series editorial board will then evaluate the input document, with the support of renowned reviewers active in the respective domain area. The review of your input will enable the editorial board to make recommendations for the book publication. The author(s) and/or guest editor(s) and the publisher Birkhäuser will then sign a publishing agreement.
Before submitting your manuscript to Whitestein Technologies, please make sure that the document respects the Whitestein Series formatting requirements: Authors are required to submit their manuscript as hardcopy printout together with a high-resolution (at least 1,200 dpi) postscript or pdf file in electronic form, all fonts and graphics embedded.
For producing the layout, the use of LaTeX is strongly recommended, with our class files birkmono.zip (for monographic volumes) or birkmult.zip (for collections of papers), which mainly define margins and fonts, and which are compatible to the LaTeX standard book class and to the AMSLaTeX packages. Please download the latest LaTeX class files together with a sample file that can be used as a template directly from Birkhäuser's website. Layouts using word processors (like Word) are also acceptable, as long as they are based on the template birkword.zip, which can also be downloaded from the same web site.
