Whitestein Technologies was founded in 1999 with the mission to become a leading provider of innovative products, solutions, and services based on software agent technologies, autonomic computing, and autonomic communications.

Whitestein Technologies' Living Systems^® product offering includes a comprehensive, industry-grade framework of software technology suites for the development, deployment, and operation of autonomic, self-organizing systems and applications (Whitestein's Autonomic Technology Platform), as well as an initial portfolio of self-managing, goal-oriented solutions for selected application domains and industries (Whitestein's Autonomic Business Solutions).

The high quality and expertise of Whitestein's team is underlined not least by the fact that several of the team members are appointed to international expert groups on a regular basis. This includes as members of program committees of international conferences and symposia, as members of editorial boards of trade magazines and other publications, and – in one case – as a member of the board of directors of the Autonomic Communication Forum (ACF). The ACF is the standards body for autonomic computing & communications recently founded by Motorola, IBM, Intel, Hitachi, and other leading technology companies.
